What is the best-looking, cleanest and most natural way to lock your hair into dreadlocks?

I am growing my hair in the process of growing my hair into dreadlocks. (The term "dread" in the word dreadlocks brings with it a negative connotation, I believe they should henceforth simply be called locks. Since when they are properly taken care of, locks do not look dreadful at all, the hair is just "locked" into place.) I am proud of my hair and want to keep it for a long time. I have thick, natural, shiny, hair. I have been going to a loctician for about a year and a half now. My hair is in the stage of locking but it is not yet mature. I started them with long hair, done in two-strand twists. The woman who does my hair uses Aloe vera gel (scd directly from an Aloe vera plant, not prepackaged), shea er, African Royale Miracle Oil Moisturizer, a few other natural oils and a sheen spray from a green can. I would like to know what other people use in the process of locking their own hair, but I would like to continue using the most natural ingredients as possible.
