After getting the work permit do you need a social?

My wife is Brazilian and we did all the steps to have her status changed and we just got the work authorization card in the mail. the plastic one with her picture and finger print on it. Now do we need to apply for a social? or will they automatically send one of the "work only" socials to us? and if we need to apply, where do we go?
