Akira opening scene?

My friend and I both are fans of the Akira movie, and according to him, he saw the movie when he was little and he says that he saw an extended version of the movie where it had the beginning scene of the manga where they are on the highway and reach the end of the highway where the explosion happened. Did that scene really exist in the movie, because I've seen it, and I've watched it from three different DVDs and never saw this scene, I owned the special edition DVD of this movie, and even then didn't see this scene. Did this really happen in this movie in some sort of extended version? If it did, does any one know where I could find a copy of this extended version (If it exists), I can't find one or even any mention of it on google or anywhere. And by the way, there are two people that say this happened, I'm not just a gullible moron.
