Decorator Consultant and Starting a Business How?? Don't know where to start, Will it work?
Hello, Hoping to find some friendly suggestions... I worked for at a large coorperation in Custom Decorating as a decorator consultant for 10 years thus I have 10 years of custom window treatments sales, I do have color skills and decorating skills, measuring, fabric knowledge. Since the big economy fell my lucritive $60,000 commission checks have diminished last year, we lost our home, cars You get the point.. I decided to leave the company to take care of my son till he starts kindergarten and get some good mommy time since I had been so busy before. Now he is starting school and I cant return to the company I so loved, Problem is that there is no openings and the business is overpriced I always though and not doing good , they are stuggling with about $1500 income a month. Decorating is my pion and helping people. I want to stay in this field since its something I love to do and wake up every day looking forward to work and creating something new, everyday is different. I have been considering starting my own business as a decorator/shopper. I can paint, draw murals (simple ones) Cartoons/ palm trees/ rock etc... I have painted several homes I have lived in myself and my brother is a professional painter I could hire him for big jobs and just try to buy the equiptment myself. I LOVE shopping and I am really good at coordinating and finding deals. I was thinking $25 hr plus 10% commission for items purchased, I am going to be Frugal and real competitive in this economy, any help or adivise would be very appricated! My husband is out of work too, but he would be happy and willing to help, like installing window treatments, errands etc. I was thinking possibly I could find a seamstress and do some simple ds/panels as well. Any help on how to get this off the ground with little to no money and any ideas would be so appriciated. I am well known in my city with lots (hundreds) of happy customers from my 10 years with that company.
