Dog sled never stopped and i had to jump out of the moving sled. is this normal?

i took a ride in sled and a team of sled dogs was pulling it. Accidentally the musher slipped out of the sled due to loss of balance in steep turn. the dogs never noticed musher slipping and continued on. being confused and panicky, i yelled "musher slipped. you have to stop". "wait for musher", "wait". But it was no use to them and the dogs continued pulling the sled. Realizing those dogs are crazy, i myself jumped out of the sled. To my surprise the dogs were still pulling the sled even when there is no one on it. is this normal behavior by sled dogs? i have no idea how the dogs stopped later.
